Fall Garden Guide

We hope you have stayed cool during the extreme heat this summer. We heard from many of you about your stressed plants. As we start our fall planting, the weather will be a little more on our side. September is a great time to build your fall garden and prep your outdoor tropicals to be moved indoors. Move sun loving tropicals into more shady spots to get them acclimated to the darker conditions of living indoors through winter. Don't forget to check your plants for any insects that might be hitchhiking.

Get rid of the Grubs

Fall is also a great time to de-grub your flower beds for next spring. Grub worms can be a real headache in your garden by eating away at the roots of your plants. In the winter, grubs will dig deep into the ground making it more difficult to kill them in the spring. We recommend a good insecticide like Grub Free Zone manufactured by Hi-Yield®. Be extra cautious about the insecticide you choose, as grub worms coexist with earthworms which are extremely beneficial to your garden.

Cool Weather Colors
We're "over" the sun scorched brown look of summer! September marks our official goodbye to summer and hello to autumn. Cooler weather will bring truckloads of mums, asters, pansies, snapdragons, and ornamental kale and cabbage. These will keep your flower beds and containers looking fresh right up to our first hard frost.

Trees and Shrubs
Fall is the best time to plant trees, shrubs, and start your turf seeding. Planting now allows them the opportunity to establish a strong root base before winter and give them a head start next spring. Need help? Our landscaping services can make adding trees and shrubs to your landscape a whole lot easier.

Clean Up and Mulch

Digout those weeds! Cut back or remove dead, broken or scorched foliage. Prep your beds by applying a good layer of organic material. Apply mulch as needed to keep the ground cool and retain moisture.
